Formulate: Shampoo + Conditioner Perfectly Engineered Just For YOU

Hair care is super important.

No matter what kind of hair you have, how often you do it, or what phase of life you're in, you should always make your hair care a priority.

I recently got to try out Formulate and their personalized shampoo and conditioner.

Yep, it really is personalized just for YOU!

It was a really easy process to get my "formula" set up. I downloaded their free app, answered some questions about my hair and that was it. The questions were about the current state of my hair, natural tendencies, what it deals with (styling, products, environment), etc. I love that they are very thorough to get to know my hair as best as they can.

They then asked about concerns and goals I have for my hair, took my answers and BOOM! They formulated a shampoo/conditioner that was engineered specifically for my hair. The shampoo and conditioner was then sent to my home. It was really nice because the Formulate team made sure to check in with me and kept me up to date with when my shampoo was being made, when it shipped and when it was delivered.

My hair felt heavy. This is something I wasn't used to and didn't necessarily like because I like a lot of volume in my hair. BUT the good thing about this is that I knew this was going to happen. Before getting my formula, they let me know that my hair may feel heavy or have a residue feeling at first.
I also noticed how soft my hair was right away. Literally, as soon as I took my towel off and felt my hair it was amazing how soft it felt. It also smelled amazing. The scent is not overwhelming, but rather very fresh and clean smelling. I love it!

I also noticed that more of my natural was there after using Formulate. It's no secret that I color my hair, so between using heat and coloring my hair fairly frequently my natural curl has gone away over time. But it definitely came out once I was using Formulate.

Above is how my hair normally dried. Not really a wave and not really straight. Just weird and frumpy.

And above is with Formulate. More of a wave came out once I started using it.

I also loved that my hair was holding curls SO much better. I don't know if it's due to my hair changing since I am no longer pregnant and am almost 3 months postpartum, but it just wasn't holding a curl like it used to. Once I starting washing my hair with Formulate I had bouncy curls and it held the style all day and several days later which is what one of my goals were when they asked me questions about my hair. The picture below is with the same curling iron.

My husband actually also started to use my shampoo (without me knowing lol I can't believe I didn't notice or smell it at first!) and it made his hair look so much better. He has really coarse hair and once he started using Formulate, it was so much softer, shinier, and he was no longer getting dandruff which was a huge improvement!

Before using it, they told me to give my formula a big shake before using it so all of the ingredients can be mixed together. Their chemist says it may take around 6 uses then 1 or 2 weeks for the oil production on your scalp to adjust. So this process is definitely not an over-the-night hair fix. A lot of us are used to cheaper hair shampoos/conditioners that are not good for our hair, but we are used to the way they make our hair feel. Your hair might feel soft and healthy with your shampoo now, but a lot of shampoos leave a wax coating on your hair that pretty much tricks us into thinking our hair is super healthy and soft.

Also, just a heads up...when washing with Formulate, it doesn't lather like a lot of shampoos, but that doesn't mean it's not working. :)

Again, we're just used to shampoos getting very soapy and thinking that that means the shampoo is doing its job. So don't worry if your head isn't covered in bubbles! Formulate is doing its job.

A big reason why I love Formulate is that their shampoo and conditioners will always be sulfate free (SO IMPORTANT!), paraben free, sodium free and cruelty free. All super important things. If you haven't looked at what's in your shampoo and conditioner before, you should go take a look at the labels.

And one of the best things about Formulate is that you can let them know if you need an adjustment at any time with your formula. I know it can be nerve-wrecking ordering something like this and being scared of wasting your money on something that doesn't work for you (especially if you're on a budget like me), but since you can change your formula and make any tweaks needed, there is nothing to be worried about. The Formulate team works with you until you have a formula you are happy with which I think is huge.

Now, I was curious to see how my hair would feel if I switched back to the other shampoo and conditioner I was using before Formulate and let me just say, it was astonishing to see the difference. But in case you don't want to take my word for it, I think these pictures will speak for themselves:

The second photo above was taken today just before sharing this post with you. I have not bleached my hair during this process, I only colored my hair with demi-permanent color from Wella. So it is obvious that my hair looks much more dry when I'm using regular shampoo than when I am using Formulate. I can definitely feel the difference just when I touch my hair with my fingers. Switching back to Formulate now! Time to throw out all the other shampoos that were not doing my hair any favors.

So obviously, I recommend Formulate. If you've been following me for awhile, you'll know that I love taking care of my hair and I like to almost always have my hair done. So good hair care is definitely a big thing for me and I'm so happy to say I have really enjoyed using Formulate.

And that brings me to the best part of all of this!

I'm going to apologize in advance if this is all over the place. Hahaha. Blogging while your needy sick toddlers are around isn't the easiest and I've thought of a million different things I want to talk about as I've been writing, so this may seem a bit scatterbrained. Lol. But hopefully this can help some of y'all that have wanted to start doing this! I enjoy being honest with you guys and hope that you all know how thankful I am for every one of you that I have connected with online!

If you've been following me on Instagram for awhile, you'll know that I haven't been doing this for a long time. In fact, my first collaboration wasn't even until around April of this year, so I've only been doing this for around 9 months. I'm still very …

Bloomlife Pregnancy Tracker + Contraction Monitor Review

I can't believe that as of today I am 34 weeks pregnant. This pregnancy has flown by and we are so close to meeting our third son! I've had the opportunity to try a product recently that has been incredible and I'm so excited to share about it with you guys. I'll be sharing about the Bloomlife contraction monitor in this post and sharing my honest review.

Most of you know this is my third pregnancy. Now, I'm no expert at motherhood and pregnancy, but I do have some experience since this is my third time around. With my first two sons, I never felt any Braxton Hicks. Braxton Hicks are contractions that occur before real labor. They are normal to experience and they are not a sign that you're about to give birth. I like to think of them as the bodies way of preparing for labor. They can start fairly early in your pregnancy and you might not even know that you're experiencing them.  (A good thing to remember about Braxton Hicks and real labor contractions is …

Instagram Tips + Tricks

So you want to increase your engagement on your posts? Perhaps you have a small business and you feel like your posts aren't getting seen? Or maybe you're a mom like me trying to do this whole influencer thing and want your engagement to be better? I'm sharing some tips and tricks that I've learned along the way to help you out and teach you how to best use Instagram.

It would be nice if Instagram weren't all about numbers, but let's not kid ourselves. It is. Most people want to reach the 10k mark so they have the swipe up feature for their followers. And a lot of companies tend to reach out to accounts with large followings. It makes sense, it's business. But don't let it get you down. I myself have 5k followers and I'm not letting that keep me from trying to grow my page and get out there.

So, let's talk engagement real quick. If you don't know what engagement means, I'll break it down for you. A lot of companies that work with influe…
